Abstract


The purpose of this study was to evaluate the application time and retention rate in pit and fissure sealant among the caries preventive methods.
The author analyzed the 181 sealants placed on mandibular first molar teeth of 150 children, between seven and nine years of age.
The results obtained as follow:
1. The average time spent for a application sealants was 5.37 minutes.
2. Six months later, the sealant was completely retained on 91.2%, partially completely retained on 6.6%, no retained on 2.8%.
3. Twelve months later, the sealant was completely retained on 78.4%, partially completely retained on 13.8%, no retained on 2.8%.
4. It seemed that school incremental dental care system should be developed as a part of the National Dental Health Policy in the Republic of Korea.
